Anyone can print a logo on a hoodie. It takes seconds, and it fades just as fast. We chose the slower road. We make embroidered hoodies and crewnecks, never printed ones, and that choice shapes everything we do.
This is the story of why we make embroidered hoodies, why we redrew our own logo for thread, and the rules we will not break.
Why embroidered hoodies, not printed ones
Print sits on top of fabric. Embroidery becomes part of it. A needle stitches thread through the cloth, so the mark has depth, texture and a little shadow of its own. You can feel it with your thumb. It catches the light differently as you move. After many washes, it is still there.
That matters to us because our marks are small. A small printed logo can look like an afterthought. In contrast, a small embroidered logo looks like a decision. That is the feeling we want on every chest.

We redrew the logo for thread
Here is something most brands never mention. A logo designed for a screen will not survive a needle.
We first drew our astronaut with fine lines and tiny highlights. On a phone, it looks sharp. On fabric, those lines would collapse into a blur, because embroidery has a minimum line width. Below that, the stitches simply cannot hold a clean shape.
So we rebuilt it. We thickened every line, removed the details thread could not carry, and limited the palette to one or two thread colors. Then we set hard limits. The small astronaut is never stitched narrower than about 3.25 inches. The larger version, with the MH monogram set into the helmet, needs about 4.5 inches. Smaller than that, and the mark gets the monogram instead. That is also why the astronaut now lives on the sleeve of our Explorer Capsule pieces, where it has room, while every everyday essential carries the small monogram.
That is not a design flourish. It is the difference between a mark that holds and a mark that frays into noise.
One mark per piece
Every piece carries exactly one dominant mark. Never two competing graphics. Never a slogan.
- The MH monogram sits at the left chest, about the width of a business card. It is our master mark: two letters on one shared stem, because no one stands entirely alone.
- The MH astronaut appears only in the Explorer Capsule, embroidered on the upper sleeve. It is our signature for curiosity and going further, and it only appears where it has room to read clearly.
Because our embroidered hoodies each have one mark, the whole wardrobe layers together without fighting. A khaki hoodie works over a black crewneck. Washed black works with slate. Brown works with almost everything.

Embroidered hoodies start with the garment
We start with the hoodie, not the graphic. The shape has to be right before we stitch anything onto it. Our first collection uses relaxed, heavyweight silhouettes with dropped shoulders and ribbed cuffs, in black, khaki, washed black, slate blue and brown. Some are garment-dyed, which gives each one a softer, lived-in tone.
We will list exact fabric weights and composition on each product page only once our makers confirm them. Until then, we would rather say less than say something untrue.
The rules we will not break
To sum up, here is the standard every Melanated Humans piece has to meet:
- Embroidered, never printed.
- One mark per piece, placed where it reads clearly.
- Marks redrawn for thread and stitched no smaller than they can hold.
- A colour palette that layers, so every piece works with every other piece.
- No unverified claims about fabric, fit or performance.
